A Sunset-to-Jade Lens Art® Interpretation for the JMM Belvedere

LENS ART® INTERPRETATION

Jacques Marie Mage Belvedere — Sunset to Jade Green

Frame: Jacques Marie Mage Belvedere
Lens Art: Sunset graduated tint × Dinamica Jade Green × Glamour
Client: Alexi
Design Character: Bright · Vivid · Vintage · Contemporary

Some frames demand more than a conventional reglaze. They need lenses that respect the original design while creating a completely personal way of wearing, and seeing through them.

For Alexis, the brief was to transform his Jacques Marie Mage Belvedere from the Last Frontier collection into eyewear he could enjoy every day. The lenses needed to complement its dark tortoiseshell acetate and golden detailing without making the frame feel overly formal or heavy. Just as importantly, Alexis wanted his vision to feel brighter, more comfortable and more vivid throughout the day.

The result is a custom Lens Art® composition that begins with a warm sunset graduation indoors and transforms into vibrant jade green outdoors.

The JMM Belvedere

The Belvedere is a strong rectangular design with considerable depth, structure and presence. Jacques Marie Mage describes the model as featuring signature arrowhead pins, an arrowhead temple motif and finely engraved “Damascus” wirecores, details that combine the rugged character of the Last Frontier collection with intricate craftsmanship.

Alexis’s colour-way features richly layered Japanese tortoiseshell acetate with warm golden tones running through the frame and core wire. A standard brown lens would have coordinated with it, but it would also have been predictable and potentially made the entire composition feel heavier.

Instead, the lens needed to bring light and contrast into the frame.

Designing the everyday visual experience

We fitted Alexis with Single Vision Boost lenses. These preserve a broad, natural distance field while introducing gentle additional support through the lower portion of the lens for close work.

This gave Alexis the freedom of single-vision distance lenses with additional assistance for phones, reading and other everyday near tasks, without moving into a conventional progressive-lens construction.

The lens design provided the functional foundation. The colour was then created around how Alexis wanted to experience the world.

The custom Sunset gradient

At rest, the lenses carry a custom Sunset graduated tint, moving from approximately 30% at the top to 5% at the bottom.

The colour sits between mustard, burnt orange and softened saffron. It is warm and visible without resembling a conventional orange sunglass lens.

Across the upper lens, the deeper tint provides comfortable coverage and definition. As it softens towards the bottom, the lens becomes increasingly open for reading, phone use and close vision.

Viewed through the lenses, the warm tint creates a brighter, more contrast-rich atmosphere. Natural colours feel more animated, greenery becomes richer and dull or overcast environments gain a subtle golden lift.

On the face, the Sunset tone contrasts with the darker tortoiseshell rather than disappearing into it. This allows both the acetate and lens colour to remain visible as separate parts of the composition

The outdoor transformation

When exposed to UV, Dinamica Jade Green develops across the complete lens.

The warm mustard-orange base does not simply disappear beneath the photochromic layer. It interacts with the jade, creating a changing spectrum of olive, yellow-green, moss and vivid jade depending on the level of activation and surrounding light.

Against the dark tortoiseshell front, the brighter green feels energetic and confident. It gives the Belvedere a completely different outdoor identity while retaining a natural relationship with the frame’s earthy colour palette.

The permanent Sunset base also means the lenses remain visually complete when Dinamica is not activated, including indoors and while travelling. Photochromic performance naturally varies according to UV exposure, temperature and the environment.

A subtle golden surface

The composition is completed with a Glamour coating.

Rather than creating an obvious full mirror, Glamour introduces a delicate golden reflection when light catches the front surface. This connects the lenses with the engraved gold-toned core wire and metal details without obscuring the tint beneath.

Its anti-reflective and hard-coat properties also help control distracting lens reflections and glare. This can improve visual comfort for everyday wear and driving while keeping the lenses clear enough for others to see Alexis’s eyes.

One frame, several identities

Indoors, the Belvedere feels warm, open and sophisticated.

Through the lenses, the world takes on a lifted sunset atmosphere. On the face, the graduated tint brings colour into the frame without overwhelming its craftsmanship.

Outside, the lenses become greener, deeper and considerably more expressive. The subtle golden surface begins to reveal itself more clearly, linking the changing jade colour with the frame’s precious-metal detailing.

This is not simply a tortoiseshell frame fitted with tinted lenses. It is a complete visual composition designed around Alexis, his prescription, his daily life and how he wanted the world to feel.

That is the purpose of Lens Art®: not choosing a lens colour from a catalogue, but designing the relationship between the person, the frame, the lens and the view through it.
